Benzene (BZ), with the chemical formula C6H6, is the simplest aromatic hydrocarbon. It is flammable, volatile, has a special aromatic odor, and is a colorless, highly toxic liquid at room temperature. Difficult to dissolve in water, easily soluble in organic solvents, and can also be used as an organic solvent.
Applications: Important raw materials for synthetic dyes, synthetic rubber, synthetic resins, synthetic fibers, plastics, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and petrochemical products, adhesives, and industrial solvents.
